The session will begin with a discussion and review of the intake form for new clients. The Practitioner will describe the session to the client, give the client an opportunity to discuss any problems or issues they are experiencing, and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session. (We call this “setting the intention” for the session.)
The session will then begin with a guided relaxation exercise. This will include some breath work, meditation and a mindful visualization.
You will then rest comfortably on a massage table if able, treatment can be conducted with the client seated in a chair if lying prone isn't an option.
A session can either be hands-on, where the Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. If a client prefers not to be touched, they can indicate this to the practitioner before they begin.
The session will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at the torso area.
A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating.
Once the Reiki treatment is over, your practitioner will gently notify you, check that you are doing ok and offer to help you sit up. You can opt to remain lying down for a few minutes while you re-orient yourself to your surroundings. You will then be offered a bottle of spring water.
The treatment will end with a quick grounding exercise and discussion with your practitioner about your experience and treatment plan options if applicable.
The Reiki energy flowing through the physical and subtle bodies encourages the gradual release of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual toxins that have made their way into the cellular memory and built up in the energy system over time.
Much of the release experience is relatively gentle, does not take a great deal of time to work through your system, and passes almost without notice. However, as toxins are released, the client may temporarily experience one or more of the following symptoms; mild headache, flu-like symptoms, tingling sensations, nausea, constipation or diarrhea or changes in sleep habits. **It is possible that these issues could be unrelated to your Reiki session and you may want to seek medical attention if they persist, trust your gut!
Overall, try to embrace your detoxification symptoms, your body is shedding old toxins that no longer resonate with your higher frequency. Detoxification is a very positive sign to your overall healing journey!
To get the most out of your session and allow the process to fully integrate, it is recommended that you follow these steps:
